SSC Stenographer exam recruits candidates for Stenographer Grade C (Group B) and Grade D (Group C) posts in central government ministries, departments, and organisations across India.
Grade C Stenographers earn approximately ₹51,000–₹60,000 per month in-hand, while Grade D Stenographers earn ₹36,000–₹43,500 per month, plus DA, HRA, TA, and other allowances as per the 7th Pay Commission.
Yes — SSC Stenographer offers a stable central government job with attractive salary, office-based work environment, good work-life balance, job security, and clear promotion pathways to Private Secretary and higher ranks.
SSC Stenographer is moderately easy compared to other SSC exams — the written CBT covers Reasoning, English, and GK, but the Skill Test (shorthand dictation at 80–100 wpm) requires dedicated daily practice to clear.
Focus on English comprehension and grammar, practice Reasoning daily, stay updated on current affairs, and most importantly, practise shorthand dictation consistently to meet the 80–100 wpm speed requirement.
Learning basic stenography in 2 months is possible with intensive daily practice (3–4 hours), but reaching the required 80–100 wpm exam speed typically takes 4–6 months of consistent effort.
Practice shorthand symbols daily, take timed dictation sessions, increase your wpm speed gradually, use audio dictation tools, and get expert feedback — structured coaching significantly speeds up the learning process.
Grade C is a Group B post (100 wpm dictation speed, 12th pass) with higher pay (₹51,000+/month), while Grade D is a Group C post (80 wpm, 12th pass) with a starting salary of ₹36,000+/month — both recruited through the same exam.
