Frequently Asked Questions About SBI PO Exams

SBI PO is conducted by the State Bank of India to recruit Probationary Officers (Management Trainees) at Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I) across its branches and offices pan-India.

SBI PO starting basic pay is ₹56,480/month (with 4 advance increments), gross salary approximately ₹98,320, and in-hand salary around ₹85,000–₹86,000 per month after deductions, plus DA, HRA, CCA, medical benefits, and leased accommodation.

Indian citizens aged 21–30 years (relaxations apply) with a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university are eligible to apply.

SBI PO has 3 stages: Prelims (100 Q, 100 Marks, 60 min), Mains (152 Q + Descriptive, 225 Marks, 210 min), and Group Exercise & Personal Interview (50 Marks combined).

SBI PO generally offers a higher in-hand salary, better perks, and a higher annual CTC compared to IBPS PO, with an approximate annual CTC of ₹21.97 lakh, making it one of the most preferred banking jobs in India. IBPS PO recruits for 11 public sector banks, while SBI PO is exclusively for State Bank of India.

Yes, SBI POs must sign a ₹2 lakh service bond and serve the bank for a minimum of three years after joining.

Yes, 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer in both Prelims and Mains — attempt questions strategically to protect your score.

SBI POs progress from JMGS-I (PO) → MMGS-II (Manager) → MMGS-III (Senior Manager) → SMGS-IV (Chief Manager) → SMGS-V (AGM) → TEGS-VI (DGM) → TEGS-VII (GM) and beyond, with annual promotion exams.

4–6 months of focused preparation covering Prelims, Mains, Descriptive Writing, and Group Exercise/Interview is typically sufficient, with daily mock tests and consistent sectional practice.
