IBPS RRB Eligibility Criteria

The IBPS RRB eligibility criteria 2026 vary depending on the post applied for. Candidates must fulfil the prescribed age limit, educational qualification, local language proficiency and work experience requirements, wherever applicable, as mentioned in the official notification. 

Nationality/Citizenship

A candidate must be:

• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries and fulfils the conditions prescribed by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification

Office Assistant (Multipurpose):

• A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university or its equivalent.
• Proficiency in the local language of the RRB concerned.
• Desirable: Working knowledge of computers.

Officer Scale-I (Assistant Manager):

• A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university or its equivalent.
• Proficiency in the local language of the RRB concerned.
• Preference may be given to candidates with degrees in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Engineering, Pisciculture, Agricultural Marketing and Cooperation, Information Technology, Management, Law, Economics or Accountancy.
• Desirable: Working knowledge of computers.

Officer Scale-II & Scale-III:

• Candidates must possess the post-specific educational qualification and required professional experience prescribed in the notification.
• Specialist Officer posts under Scale-II, such as IT, Law, Treasury, Marketing and Agriculture, require the relevant qualification and experience.

Local Language Proficiency

Candidates applying for Office Assistant and Officer Scale-I posts must have proficiency in the local language of the State/UT for which the RRB is located. Candidates should be able to read, write and speak the specified local language.

Exam Medium

The exam medium varies by State/UT — for example, Uttar Pradesh (English, Hindi, Urdu), Punjab (English, Hindi, Punjabi), Maharashtra (English, Hindi, Marathi, Konkani), Karnataka (English, Hindi, Kannada, Konkani) and Telangana (English, Hindi, Telugu, Urdu). The official notification lists the complete State/UT-wise language list.

Important Eligibility Points

• The age limit varies according to the post.
• Candidates must fulfil the required educational qualification within the prescribed date mentioned in the notification.
• Office Assistant and Officer Scale-I require local language proficiency.
• Officer Scale-II and Scale-III posts have additional professional qualification and/or experience requirements.
• Candidates should carefully check the post-wise eligibility requirements before submitting the IBPS RRB application form.

Application Fee and How to Apply

For Office Assistant, the ₹175 fee applies to SC/ST/PwBD/ESM/DESM candidates. Bank transaction charges, where applicable, are borne by the candidate.

How to apply for IBPS RRB 2026:

1. Visit the official IBPS website and open the CRP RRBs section.
2. Select the relevant link Officers Scale-I/II/III or Office Assistants (Multipurpose).
3. Click “New Registration” and enter the required basic details to generate a provisional registration number and password.
4. Complete the application form and upload the required documents — photograph, signature, left thumb impression, handwritten declaration and relevant certificates.
5. Select the applicable examination/state options.
6. Pay the application fee online.
7. Submit the application and download the final application form and e-receipt for future reference.

Note: You can apply for Office Assistant and one Officer post (Scale-I, II or III only), but separate applications and fees are required for each post. Several details cannot be changed after final submission, so verify carefully before registering.

IBPS RRB Exam Pattern

IBPS RRB Prelims Exam Pattern

The IBPS RRB Preliminary Examination 2026 is conducted online for Office Assistant (Multipurpose) and Officer Scale-I (Assistant Manager) posts. The exam consists of two sections — Reasoning and Numerical Ability/Quantitative Aptitude. Candidates have a total of 45 minutes to complete the examination.

IBPS RRB Mains Exam Pattern

The IBPS RRB Main Examination 2026 is conducted for Office Assistant (Multipurpose) and Officer Scale-I (Assistant Manager) posts. The examination is conducted online and consists of five sections, with a total of 200 questions for 200 marks. Candidates get 120 minutes to complete the examination.

IBPS RRB Selection Process

Office Assistant:

Prelims → Mains → Provisional Allotment.

Provisional allotment is based on Main Examination marks and actual vacancies reported by RRBs.

Officer Scale-I: 

Prelims → Mains → Common Interview → Provisional Allotment.

Officer Scale-II & III: 

Single Online Examination → Common Interview → Provisional Allotment.

IBPS RRB Interview 

The interview applies to Officer Scale-I, Scale-II and Scale-III and carries 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks are 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates). The relative weightage of the Online Examination and Interview for the Officers’ cadre is 80:20.
